A quick christmas rant about business
read this before going into 2025
It’s that time of the year again…
The last week of the year is always about reflection - time of judgement has come. 🫠And even though reflection is important, I want you to remember:
Be kind to yourself.
Please.
You might not be able to eel it yet, but you’re doing great. As long as you stay consistent with the intention to grow, you will make it (whatever that means).
Many want to “get somewhere” but trust me, if we are not careful we will spend our whole life “wanting to get somewhere” until we die, never reaching our destination.
Why?
Destination is not about getting somewhere. It’s realizing you have already arrived. And arriving means to be in the present and to observe your being with love, care, and acceptance.
And the beautiful paradox is:
The more you accept yourself exactly where you at now, the more you will be able to grow.
This means accepting your business where it is now and looking at it with love. And with that love and acceptance, it will grow. Trust me on this one.
But now let’s look what happened in 2024:
2024 was a year of continous growth of the online creator economy.
Many have built their business in 2024. Including me:
1 year ago I was completely broke living at people’s couches just to get by. I would eat lunch on a park bench consisting of two bread pieces for 50cents and 1 package of chicken brest for 1,50 euros (I was living like that for months).
Now I’m travelling the world with money I’m making from my business (I’m currently in Ethiopia).
It’s pretty crazy to look back and realize how much can happen in 1 year. The way I’m living life now and how I was living 1 year ago COMPLETELY changed. My business opened up opportunites for me I would have never had otherwise.
For me, my business is the gateway for purpose, direction and challenge - all 3 factors I believe you need to live a good life.
I’m nowhere near where I want to be though - in 2025 I want to live with even more purpose and drive. I will focus heavily on producing in-depth psychological and spiritual content for you guys - because I truly believe:
You have to be spiritually connected to your business.
Otherwise it just won’t work. I see too many people starting a business because they think this will make them money (aka crypto, blockchain, e-mail-marketing, copywriting, editing, etc,….)
Don’t get me wrong - those are valuable skills to learn, but only if you’re connected with them.
If you want to build your business in 2025 you have to build it around a skill surrounding your values and interesting. Something you hold dearly in you. Trust me, it won’t work otherwise.
And that’s why giving business is so tricky - it’s so deeply subjective. Some deep introspection is required to find out what you want to do in life. Self-awareness will get you there.
And what helps with self-awareness? Experimenting and Reflecting. The more you experiment the more self-aware you will be. Look at me for example:
I’m 26.
In my life I worked as a waiter, house-mover, dishwasher, lawn cuter, farming, receptionist, translator, researcher, social worker, psychological assistant, blogger, ghostwriter & mentor. I’ve tried many things in my life and I will continue to do that.
Often you need to find out what you don’t want to do in order to find what you want to do. But the point I want to get across is:
Don’t build a business just because of the money. You might make money quicker but you will also burn out quicker.
Surround your business around a skill you like and the money will follow. Even if it takes longer to build, it will be worth it in the end.
The online creator economy is growing, everybody wants a piece and everybody has an opinion on what the “best skill to learn is in 2025”. But the truth is: this is HIGHLY subjective. Experimenting and stick with the skill you identify with the most.
In 2025 business building should be about connection, purpose and meaning. Not about quick money, hustling sales and money grabs.
Make your business sustainable, because remember: You’re in it for life. 🙂
With love,
Heythem
P.s.: I was a guest speaker at Lennox Saint’s cohort (I’m sure many of you know him! :D) and we discussed everything you need to know to on how build your business online.. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZCWMRSXly8&list=LL&index=8&t=2359s
